2025: An eventful year, full of activity and learning

2025 in Review: An Eventful Year, Full of Activity and Lessons Learned

I think the end of the year is a good excuse to slow down a bit, look back, and try to understand what really defined the past few months. This year, without a doubt, was marked by movement, travel, people, and shared experiences. A lot of intensity, a lot of uncertainty, but also a tremendous amount of inspiration.

If I had to sum up the year in three words, they would be networks, music, and community. And the highlights would be these.

Dreams Come True

Going to Google I/O and being in Mountain View was, without exaggeration, a dream come true. And doing it as part of Women Techmakers made it even more special. Not just because of the location, but because of what it meant: being there to represent a community that works every day to promote greater diversity and visibility in technology. And I was lucky enough to do it alongside an incredible group of people, which made it even more meaningful.

Networks That Inspire

Being selected for Santander’s SW50 program was another major milestone. Getting to know a network of incredible women—with diverse backgrounds and powerful perspectives—and then participating in the SW50 Summit in London was a deeply inspiring experience. It was one of those experiences that reframes your thinking, inspires you, and invites you to reconnect.

Travel, Travel, Travel

I traveled a lot this year—for work, for conferences, for music, and for pleasure. I traveled alone, with friends, with my partner, with my family, and with coworkers. That added up to 25 flights and more than 150 hours in the air.

I got to discover new and fascinating places, like Japan, which was a real turning point. In such an intense year, every trip became an opportunity to connect, listen, and experience things differently—to change my surroundings and, in doing so, shift my perspective. I explored castles, tasted new flavors, walked many kilometers, and met incredible people.

Music and Shared Experiences

Something I made a special priority was connecting with music and spaces for collective enjoyment. And it was a great decision.

Seeing Alanis Morissette was a dream come true for the teenage Sofía who used to sing “Hand in My Pocket” at the top of her lungs, using a hairbrush as a microphone. But I also saw Kylie Minogue, Dua Lipa, Sabina, El Zar, and a whole host of incredible artists. I’d like to give a special shout-out to Flor Núñez, whom I saw perform several times. Her songs were always there for me and gave me energy when I was feeling down. My Spotify Wrapped doesn’t lie :) Staying on the topic of music, I fulfilled another big dream: going to Liverpool and visiting some iconic places linked to the Beatles, like The Cavern.

Community: The Driving Force

The events with the Women Techmakers community are, without a doubt, still among the things that bring me the most joy and happiness. This year we hosted three events of our own, discussed many topics, and continued to create impact, inspiration, and visibility for women in tech. Every gathering confirms that all the hard work and hours dedicated to it are worth it.

Sharing What I Know

I was also able to achieve a long-standing goal: to give more talks on innovation, technology, diversity, and artificial intelligence. I gave four talks/webinars and participated in three podcasts, discussing these topics that I’m passionate about and that I feel are increasingly necessary.

Along the same lines, I set out to write more. I wanted to create content in Spanish on multiculturalism, diversity, and innovation—areas where there’s still very little material available in our language. I set a goal to write one blog post per month, and I was able to meet it.

Continuing to Learn

Professional development also played a key role. I started the year by taking the Leadership course with Maca Botta and Maia Saps, and I earned the Google Generative AI Leader certification and the I’m Remarkable certification. Learning and staying up to date remain a constant priority that I want to maintain, and they always motivate me.

Body, Focus, and Consistency

Finally, something more personal but just as important: I was able to make calisthenics a regular part of my routine and incorporate it into my Pilates practice. Sticking to this routine gave me focus and balance. It wasn’t easy with so much traveling, but when I was here, I made a conscious effort to stick with it. And it was worth it.

There were also significant changes on a personal and family level, which I’d prefer to keep to myself, but which undoubtedly shaped and marked the year, reminding me, once again, that relationships are the true anchor and driving force in times of change.

I’m closing out this year feeling tired, grateful, and at peace. I look forward to 2026 with a desire to keep learning and building within my community, making an impact in the areas that inspire me, and taking care of what—and whom—truly matters. Until next time!
